So, with all that competition out there, how do you get your promotional gifts resonating through the market pool? There are those who insist that in this day and age, the Internet should be enough in marketing your gifts. After all, everything is on the Internet – from your basic commodities to luxury bags to medicines, even bogus and suspicious-sounding items, everything you search for can be found on the Web. If not, well, there will, at least, be people who can direct you to the right direction.
On the other hand, there are those who insist that nothing will still beat old-school marketing. Print those brochures, flyers, calling cards and posters, call your friends and neighbors for face-to-face appointments, and you’re all set to go. It seems that when you go into business, you’ll have to decide on which to favor. If you’re going into the promotional gifts business, it seems that there is even more pressure.
Well, I say, there is absolutely no rule that says you have to pick just one method. After all, where exactly is it written down that you cannot have the best of both worlds?
When in doubt, you can always merge the two and see what works. This way, you’re open to many options – and it’s always best to approach your first forays into any business as open to every possibility as possible. After all, how exactly can you come up with a backup and worst-case-scenario plan (which a lot of entrepreneurs have) if you are already closed off to particular avenues of working out your business?
The Old School
Even if you’re planning on scrimping on the budget to market your promotional gifts, a simple matter of chatting up your friends and acquaintances on your plans can go a long, long way. It may not produce the immediate result – but you can bet that somewhere along the line, someone will remember you mentioning that you are currently supplying your own handmade specialty stationery for giveaways (as an example) for a special introductory price. Business cards are still particularly useful these days. Just update the ones you already have and make sure that the current details stand out. Be specific. Don’t just put in “novelty items” when you could easily put in “handmade soaps and stationery sets.” People are bound to recall such details rather than when you put in very vague entries.
The Powerful Web
When you think about it, Internet marketing is somewhat just like old school marketing in many ways, only it’s gone electronic. Go ahead, send out those e-mails. Only, try to make them more personal and less spam-like sounding, lest your friends and acquaintances delete them right away. Maximize your technology as well and take fabulous pictures of your promotional gifts, instead of just talking about them. You can also send these pictures along with the e-mails, just in case the people who you send you website links to are too busy to click on your links – and believe me, this is a possibility.
