The written word has so much power when presented properly. It is important to keep this in mind when choosing what and how to advertise using printed pens. You won’t have unlimited space or color choices so it’s a good idea to keep your message short and to the point.
Low Cost Printed Pens
Low cost printed pens (<50p) are almost always stick ballpoint pens. The ink may be of a slightly lower quality, limiting the life of the pen. That doesn’t mean you aren’t without options, though. Some, like the Flamenco Ball Pen, are available in multiple body colors. The imprint color, however, is limited to just a single color.
You’ll save money by preparing the artwork in-house but many printing companies can provide art and design for a small fee as well. Typically, if your order is over £800 the design and art services are free.
Choosing cheap printed pens for promotional purposes will save you money on the front end. They may, however, give the impression that yours is a tight-fisted company. Depending on your business, clientele and purpose of your promotional pens this may or may not be a drawback.
Medium Cost Printed Pens
Medium cost printed pens (50p - £1 a piece) offer a much wider selection of styles and printing options. Most in this range are not stick pens but rather twist or click styles. Multiple print colors may cost a little extra, usually starting at £0.03 per pen. In addition to standard ballpoint pens, rollerball and gel pens begin to appear in this price range.
In addition to a wide range of body colors, there are also novelty styles in this price range. Some pens include lights, spinning tubes, a calculator, clock or measuring tape. Additionally, some printed pens in this price range offer custom clips in any shape or design you desire.
If you are ordering printed pens for promotion at a conference or marketing event and want to stand out, consider a pen with either a multi-function feature or a quality writing experience, like a gel or roller ball style.
High Cost Printed Pens
Spending over £1 per printed pen puts you in the high cost and high quality range. Pens purchased in this price range may include novelty features – like sandtimer or light – or may simply be made of higher quality materials. Some, like the printed pens by Quill, can cost up to and over £10 a piece. These come with a lifetime manufacturer warranty and are likely to be used for years to come by your potential clients. These also make great company gifts, especially if your employees or contractors live out of the area and post is the most convenient way to deliver packages.
Most printed pens in the high cost range are likely to offer just a few imprint color choices and fewer outer body choices. This is because most of these printed pens are made of heavy duty metal on both the outside and inside. Plastic pens in this price range may offer more printing and ordering options, however.
