Chinese New Year or The Lantern Festival, as it is known in China, falls on 23rd January this year. I for one, will be hosting my own party in honour of the event and I encourage you to do the same, it’s the perfect pick-me-up for anyone suffering from the winter blues.
2012 is the Year of The Dragon, which is arguably the most powerful sign and signifies luck. The Dragon is the fifth sign in the Chinese Horoscope, the others are rat, ox, tiger, rabbit, dragon, snake, horse, sheep, monkey, rooster, dog and pig. I’m very proud to be a tiger, however, if I had to switch I would probably choose the Dragon! Famous Dragons are Joan of Arc, John Lennon, Salvador Dali and Al Pacino. A pretty impressive list, I wonder who will go onto join it this year? (Beyonce’s new baby missed out by less than a month!)
There are some wonderful traditions that accompany this festival and it is a great opportunity to gather friends and family for a celebration. It could also be a great theme for a corporate party. Get everyone to come in traditional dress for a sophisticated evening with a twist. Why not try creating some traditional Chinese dishes too? (Aromatic Crispy Duck is a favourite of mine… mmmmmm). I will be ending my meal with these wonderful fortune cookies so that my
guests can depart with some words of wisdom for the year ahead. The colour for the Chinese Year of the Dragon is gold so why not have your logo printed in Pantone 871?
For a wonderful end to the evening get in touch with us to order some beautiful Chinese lanterns. Traditionally, they are decorated with the current year’s animal symbol, but the personalisation potential doesn’t end there. Send us your logo and we will create a themed design of your choice to really help your business stand out.
